The development was confirmed by the party’s National Collation Chairman, Sem Andrew Uchendu, who represented the national secretariat during the exercise.

The announcement comes barely 24 hours after a member of the party’s National Executive Committee, Rowland Owie, declared Dr Nosa Ehima as the state chairman, further exposing deep divisions within the Edo chapter.

Meanwhile, the incumbent chairman, Kennedy Odion, whose tenure is expected to end on May 19, said he was not aware of any congress held in the state.

Before the announcement, Uchendu said he spent three days in Edo State supervising congresses conducted at the ward, local government, and state levels.

He explained that the process was based on a consensus arrangement reached by party leaders in the state under the guidance of former National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, who provided structured leadership for the exercise.

Uchendu thereafter announced Tony Alike alongside 23 other members as the newly constituted state executive committee.

Speaking after his emergence, Alike said his priority would be to reconcile aggrieved members and restore unity within the party, adding that consultations had already begun, starting with a visit to Odigie-Oyegun.
