2027: Ohanaeze Warns Tinubu, Demands Release Of Nnamdi Kanu.
Apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has called for the immediate release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), saying his imprisonment affects all Igbos, not just the IPOB leader.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at the Ohanaeze Imeobi and General Assembly in Enugu on Thursday, President-General Chief Senator John Azuta-Mbata urged the Tinubu government to free Kanu, warning against attempts to manipulate Igbo votes while he remains in detention in Sokoto.
“I have told the government: Kanu is in jail, and it is the entire Igboland that suffers. No Igbo is happy about his incarceration. This is the minimal demand of Ndi Igbo,” Mbata said.
He also praised the attention given to state creation but condemned the stereotyping of Igbos. Mbata encouraged Igbos to remain law-abiding, respect the sensibilities of host communities, and uphold Igbo cultural values wherever they live, including in the diaspora.
Highlighting the importance of preserving Igbo language, he noted UNESCO’s report declaring it endangered. “Our language is our identity. We are promoting it through professorial chairs at four universities, scholarships, and online learning platforms for diaspora children,” he said.
Mbata concluded by urging Igbo politicians to be bold, visionary, and accountable, stressing that history and the people will judge their actions.
