The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the statement on Wednesday during the 81st General Assembly and 23rd Annual General Meeting of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON) at Hawthorn Hotel and Suites, Abuja.

“I want to categorically reject the notion that Nigeria is on the brink. On the contrary, we continue to show resilience daily while addressing our security and economic challenges decisively,” Idris said.

On security, the minister assured Nigerians that coordinated military operations and enhanced intelligence are yielding results. He cited recent successes in Zamfara and Niger states, where security forces neutralized bandits and disrupted planned attacks.

“Operations by the Armed Forces and security agencies have produced significant gains. Large-scale insurgent control has decreased, and we are strengthening intelligence and rapid response to protect lives and property,” he added.

Regarding the economy, Idris highlighted signs of recovery and growing investor confidence, noting that ongoing reforms are yielding tangible results.

“Nigeria’s foreign reserves are strengthening, investor confidence is improving, and reforms in both oil and non-oil sectors are expanding revenue streams. These measures, though challenging, are stabilizing public finances and promoting transparency,” he said.

He also pointed to Nigeria’s recent reclassification to Frontier Market status by FTSE Russell as evidence of renewed global confidence, reflecting improved foreign-exchange liquidity, market transparency, and ease of capital repatriation.

“This reclassification signals that Nigeria is once again an attractive destination for global investment, with international funds expected to increase participation in our capital market,” Idris noted.

The minister urged responsible and accurate media reporting, particularly ahead of the next election cycle, emphasizing the critical role of broadcasters in shaping public perception and fostering national unity.

“The airwaves are a public trust. Broadcasting must inform, educate, and unite citizens while upholding professionalism, fairness, and accuracy,” he said.

Idris reaffirmed the government’s commitment to supporting a free, responsible media and encouraged collaboration with media institutions to combat misinformation and promote cohesion.

“Challenging times require faith in our country and patriotism, not narratives that sow fear or division,” he added.

The minister also praised BON for strengthening professionalism in broadcasting and encouraged continued efforts to build a media landscape that supports democracy, development, and national unity.

The 81st BON AGM, declared open by Idris, was attended by dignitaries including INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan, NBC Director-General Charles Ebuebu, NTA Director-General, BON Chairman Comr. Salihu Abdulhamid Dembos, ARCON DG Dr. Olalekan Fadolapo, VON DG Jibrin Baba Ndace, FRCN DG Dr. Mohammed Bulama, and BON Vice Chairman Chief Tony Akiotu.

The minister expressed confidence that the gathering would produce practical solutions to advance Nigeria’s broadcasting industry while reinforcing the country’s path to a secure, resilient, and prosperous future.

ADC Ticket Battle: Kwankwaso, Amaechi, Others Blast Atiku Over Supremacy Claims.

Published

on

A heated political exchange has erupted within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential race, as camps backing former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s rivals push back against his claims of superior popularity, especially in the North.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso rejected Atiku’s assertion that he remains the dominant northern vote-getter, insisting that such claims do not reflect today’s political realities.

The Kwankwasiyya Movement, aligned with a potential Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, dismissed Atiku’s influence in the North as largely elite-driven, arguing that Kwankwaso enjoys more genuine grassroots support.

Former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi also reacted, faulting Atiku’s position and questioning the logic of relying solely on regional identity as a basis for presidential ambition.

Atiku, in a recent interview, had maintained that none of his northern rivals, including Kwankwaso, can match his electoral strength, while downplaying Kwankwaso’s influence beyond Kano State.

His remarks sparked criticism across political circles, with some opposition figures describing them as arrogant and dismissive of other contenders.

Kwankwaso’s camp, however, maintained that both Kwankwaso and Obi have more “organic” support bases compared to politically induced followership, warning that such comments could deepen divisions within the ADC coalition.

Amaechi also argued that the ADC presidential ticket should be determined through a competitive primary rather than consensus, insisting that all aspirants should be tested at the ballot.

The growing disagreement highlights rising tension within the opposition alliance ahead of the 2027 general elections, as key figures intensify positioning for the party’s presidential ticket.
