Nigerian youths and civil society organizations on Wednesday staged a demonstration at the Abuja office of former President Goodluck Jonathan, calling on him to contest in the 2027 presidential election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The protesters filled parts of the capital, chanting slogans and holding placards urging the ex-president to return to power. Some of the messages read, “GEJ: Nigeria is dying, save it!” and “GEJ, Nigerian youths break the medicine wey dem do you.” Another warned, “GEJ, if you don’t run, we quench.”
Speaking during the protest, public analyst and former Kogi State Commissioner for Information, Tom Ohikere, said the group had waited for over three hours in the hope of meeting Jonathan, who did not appear.
“Across our nationwide consultations over the past six months, the call for his return to rescue the country has been loud and clear,” Ohikere stated.
As of this report, Jonathan has yet to respond to the calls.
The protest comes amid mounting pressure from both local and diaspora groups urging the former president to join the 2027 race.
The demonstration also coincides with a leadership crisis in the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where party members and supporters recently protested at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office, demanding the reversal of the delisting of the David Mark-led leadership.
These developments underscore the growing political momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
