‘Just Keep Doing Your Illegality’ — Presidency Hits ADC Over Congress, Convention Dates.

This follows the party’s decision to go ahead with its national convention despite the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) derecognition of its national leadership.

ADC spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, announced on Friday that the party’s National Congress will continue as scheduled. The congress is set to run from April 7 to April 14, 2026, beginning with aspirant screenings and culminating in the national convention.

In the notice, Abdullahi stated:
“This is to notify all party members that, despite INEC’s illegal actions, the African Democratic Congress will continue with its congresses as scheduled, having duly informed INEC via letters dated 27th February 2026 and 28th March 2026.
Screening of Aspirants – 7th April; Appeals on Screening – 8th April; Polling Unit, Ward, and Local Government Congresses – 9th April; Appeals on Congresses – 10th April; State Congresses – 11th April; Appeals on State Congresses – 12th April; National Convention – 14th April 2026.”

Responding on , the Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, warned that ADC’s disregard for legal procedures may carry consequences.

Onanuga wrote:
“Just continue your illegality, the lawless ADC. The dog that wants to get lost in the forest will ignore the hunter’s whistle.”

On Friday evening, the Isan Police Station in the Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State was targeted by suspected gunmen who set the facility ablaze, leaving two officers wounded. The attackers destroyed several vehicles, notably a long bus that had been chartered by police personnel from Abuja. While it was reported that officers initially stationed at the facility fled during the onset of the attack, reinforcements from the Police Mobile Force intervened while traveling from Oye to Isan, successfully repelling the gunmen and preventing them from seizing control of the community. Security forces have since restored order to the area.

A survey of the aftermath reveals significant destruction to the police station, including damaged doors, windows, and ceilings, as well as the loss of a generator and other equipment. In total, five vehicles were destroyed—two located within the station premises and three outside. While this incident marks another in a series of attacks on police infrastructure within the state, the Ekiti State Police Command has not yet released an official statement regarding the situation.
