Tinubu 2027: Uzodimma, Wike Clash Escalates Over Campaign Moves.

Published

The simmering political rivalry between the Progressive Governors’ Forum Chairman, Hope Uzodimma, and Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike, appears to be intensifying as realignments ahead of the 2027 general election accelerate.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The tension reportedly stems from disagreements over political influence and mobilisation strategies in the South-East and South-South regions, as preparations for President Bola Tinubu’s anticipated re-election gain momentum.

Sources told The Guardian that the strain began during the political crisis in Rivers State, where the Imo governor backed incumbent Rivers Governor Siminalayi Fubara amid an impeachment attempt by 27 lawmakers loyal to Wike.

Observers say Uzodimma’s support for Fubara worsened hostilities, even after President Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State last year to restore order.

The rivalry has reportedly escalated as both camps position themselves to mobilise support for Tinubu’s second term. While Wike has assured the president of substantial votes in Rivers, Cross River, Edo, and Bayelsa, Uzodimma argues that the APC already has strong structures and that true supporters of the Renewed Hope Agenda should join the party formally, rather than working from the outside.

“We do not want crafty politicians trying to scam the APC under the guise of supporting our leader and President,” Uzodimma said.

“The President has said that when friendship and party clash, he would choose his party. We stand by that,” he added.

In a veiled response, Wike warned that no governor would dictate political outcomes in Rivers while he remains politically active. Speaking at a meeting with APC and PDP stakeholders at his Life Camp residence in Abuja, he said:

“In my lifetime, no governor will come into Rivers to install any politician, whether as governor or lawmaker. No incumbent governor will determine electoral outcomes in my state while I am still alive and active.”

The rivalry is also shaping political moves in Enugu State, where former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Uche Nnaji—believed to be aligned with Uzodimma—is reportedly considering returning to the PDP to contest the governorship. Nnaji, who lost the 2023 election to Governor Peter Mbah, recently accused Mbah of tampering with his academic records at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka, a controversy that led to his resignation from President Tinubu’s cabinet.

Sanusi said the police received a distress call from Kubwa Market, located in the Bwari Area Council, reporting that a man was shooting into the air.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
