The delegation was officially received by the National Sports Commission (NSC) on Wednesday, April 1, as the country ramps up efforts to stage Africa’s largest multi-sport event.
The NSC confirmed the visit on its official account, describing it as a crucial stage in Nigeria’s hosting campaign.
“The delegations are conducting a thorough inspection of key sporting venues, supporting infrastructure, and Nigeria’s overall readiness to host Africa’s premier multi-sport event,” the commission said.
Technical experts are evaluating the nation against continental hosting standards, including facilities, logistics, accommodation, transportation, and the broader sports ecosystem.
“The visit represents a key milestone in the bidding process, with specialists assessing Nigeria’s compliance with established African Games hosting standards,” the NSC added.
Nigeria’s bid emphasizes long-term benefits beyond the Games themselves. Authorities say the plan aims to boost infrastructure, youth development, and economic growth through sports.
“Our bid is guided by a clear vision—not just to host the Games, but to leave a lasting impact via infrastructure upgrades, youth engagement, and economic opportunities driven by sport,” the commission noted.
The country is highlighting its history of hosting international events alongside ongoing investments in the sports sector.
“With a proven track record of major international competitions and continuous investment in the sports ecosystem, Nigeria is positioning itself as a credible and capable host,” the NSC said.
The commission reaffirmed its commitment to presenting a compelling bid that showcases Nigeria’s organizational strength, capacity, and ambition to deliver a world-class African Games experience.
Naija News reports that this move follows Nigeria’s failed attempt to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad, India, which dashed hopes of staging the centenary edition in Abuja.
