Obi argued that working with such individuals presents a chance to influence and reform them positively if wrongdoing is proven.
In an interview on Magic FM Aba in Abia State, he also criticized selective justice by security agencies, noting that others who have committed graver offenses remain free.
Drawing a biblical analogy, Obi said, “When Jesus came here, his friends were tax collectors and prostitutes because he was trying to change them. That was part of what he sought to build as a person.”
He further claimed that many facing corruption charges today are actually victims of political persecution.
Obi specifically cited former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami and ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, questioning why they are being targeted.
“Everyone knows the contributions of Malami and El-Rufai to the current government. So why the persecution?” he asked.
He added, “The law is applied selectively… those who have done worse are free, while political opponents are targeted by this government.”
