A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore from West Virginia, has urged Nigeria to take urgent action on its worsening security situation, warning that failure to do so could prompt intervention by the U.S. government under President Donald Trump.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The warning follows the Palm Sunday attack in Jos, Plateau State, which Moore described as tragic.

Speaking in an interview with Newsmax, Moore said, “Unfortunately, 40 individuals were killed at a Palm Sunday service, which is just tragic.”

Moore, a member of the House Appropriations Committee, explained that a detailed report on Nigeria’s insecurity has been submitted to the White House. The report, informed by his recent visit to the country, examines patterns of violence, particularly attacks on religious gatherings. He cited another incident in Kaduna State where 13 Christians were reportedly killed at a wedding by Islamic extremist militants.

On bilateral cooperation, Moore said recommendations were submitted on how the Nigerian government could work with the U.S. to address security challenges.

He added, “President Trump has made it clear: if Nigeria does not address this situation, we will step in. We prefer to act in cooperation and coordination, but if they don’t step up, we will take the lead.”

Moore also highlighted current U.S. support in Nigeria, including 200 military personnel assisting Nigerian forces and the deployment of MQ-9 Reaper drones. He recalled a Tomahawk missile strike in December 2025 targeting ISIS and Boko Haram elements in Nigeria, noting that these groups continue to operate largely unchecked.

Assessing Nigeria’s response, Moore said, “The government is taking some steps, but not fast enough. These attacks continue, and something has to give.”

He rejected claims that the situation is “complex,” pointing to repeated attacks on religious gatherings as evidence that urgent action is required.

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
