Court Blocks Move To Stop Kingibe From ADC Activities.

Published

on

Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja has declined an ex parte request seeking to stop Senator Ireti Kingibe from taking part in the activities of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The application, brought by party leaders from Wuse Ward in the Federal Capital Territory, alleged that the senator had been suspended over claims of anti-party conduct.

Rather than granting the request, the court instructed the ward executives—reportedly aligned with the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike—to properly serve the senator with court documents to allow her respond to the allegations.

Justice Lifu stressed that such applications, especially those involving political matters, must be treated with caution. He noted that discretion in granting restrictions on political participation must be exercised carefully and fairly.

The judge underscored the importance of hearing both sides, stating that justice can only be achieved when the defendant’s position is considered alongside that of the plaintiffs.

He subsequently ordered that all relevant court processes be served on Kingibe to enable her prepare her defence and adjourned the case to April 20, 2026, for the hearing of pending applications.

The suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CV/539/2026, was filed by Okezuo Godfrey Anayo and Isaiah Ojonugwa Samuel on behalf of themselves and other ward members.

In their application, filed by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Kolawole Olowookere, the plaintiffs sought an interim injunction preventing Kingibe from presenting herself as a member of the ADC.

They also asked the court to bar her from attending party meetings, carrying out party functions, or representing the party in any capacity until the case is determined.

Additionally, they requested that she be restrained from interfering in the ward’s administration and records.

The plaintiffs maintained that Kingibe, who represents the FCT in the Senate, was suspended on March 10, 2026, by the Wuse Ward Executive Committee, following due process under the party’s constitution and with the backing of a two-thirds majority.

They accused her of anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and seizing official ward documents.

According to them, despite being informed of her suspension, the senator allegedly continued to hold parallel meetings, issue statements as a party member, and use security personnel to intimidate ward officials.

They described her actions as a clear violation of the party’s internal processes.

Meanwhile, Abubakar Marshall, who identified himself as counsel to the senator, told the court that a preliminary objection had already been filed against the suit and served on the plaintiffs’ legal team, setting the stage for a legal showdown at the next hearing.
