An alleged resignation letter reportedly written by Nafiu Bala, a senior member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has surfaced online amid the party’s ongoing leadership crisis and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to derecognise its leadership.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The letter was shared on Wednesday by social media influencer Emma IK Umeh (Tcee) via his X account.

Dated May 18, 2025, Bala’s letter reportedly states that he resigned from his position on the party’s National Working Committee, effective May 26, 2025. He said the decision was aimed at facilitating “a smooth and effective coalition and restructuring” within the ADC.

Addressed to the party’s National Chairman, Bala clarified that his resignation does not signify leaving the party entirely and expressed willingness to serve in other capacities if called upon in the future.

In a separate letter sent to the INEC Chairman in Abuja, the party indicated that Bala’s resignation had been tendered on May 17, 2025, and confirmed that it was received, considered, and accepted by the National Working Committee in line with the ADC constitution and the Electoral Act 2022. A copy of the letter was attached for INEC’s records.

The correspondence, signed by ADC National Chairman Ralph Okey Nwosu and National Secretary Alhaji Said Baba Abdullahi, requested that INEC update its records to reflect the change in leadership.

While the authenticity of the letters has not been independently verified, their release comes amid heightened tensions in the party.

DAILY POST reports that INEC on Wednesday removed former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola from its portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, respectively. The Commission also stated it would not recognise Nafiu Bala Gombe, who is seeking to be declared national chairman via the courts.

INEC further announced it would suspend recognition of all factions within the party and would not monitor any conventions or congresses organised by rival groups until a substantive suit is resolved in the Federal High Court.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
