“No Yoruba Man Arrested By EFCC – Ex-NHIS Boss Slams Agency”.
Former National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Executive Secretary, Yusuf Usman, has accused Nigeria’s anti-corruption agencies of practicing selective justice.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In an interview with Symfoni’s Naija Unfiltered, Usman claimed that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) exhibit bias in their arrest patterns under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
He alleged that politicians from certain ethnic groups are largely spared from investigation.
“We have not seen a single Yoruba man arrested by the EFCC. Aminu Tambuwal, myself, Abubakar Malami, and Nasir El-Rufai are all Fulanis and have been arrested, but Yorubas are treated as saints. People are watching,” he said.
Usman referenced public cases involving individuals from various states and backgrounds, emphasizing that his critique was about patterns, not the merits of each case.
“We’ve seen Yahaya Bello from Kogi, Chris Ngige, and Godwin Emefiele—whatever they did, that’s not the point,” he added.
He also suggested that enforcement appears to be influenced by geography, implying that some regions are treated more leniently.
“Geographically, some areas seem almost untouched. They’re considered saints. They’re safe,” he said, noting that such perceptions are widely discussed.
Highlighting leadership in key agencies, Usman noted how ethnic representation may affect public perception.
“People are saying the EFCC is headed by a Yoruba man. The DSS is also led by a Yoruba man. The ICPC, on the other hand, is led by someone from the Northwest,” he said, suggesting these appointments shape views on selective enforcement.
