The convention will also draw party leaders and stakeholders from national, zonal, state, and ward levels, where new executives of the ruling party are expected to be elected.

Mohammed Idris, Minister of Information and National Orientation and Co-Chairman of the Convention’s Media Sub-committee, revealed this during the APC World Media Briefing at the Transcorp Hilton, Abuja, on Thursday.

He stated that thousands of delegates from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory will participate. “We are expecting a total of 8,453 delegates from across the federation to converge in Abuja,” Idris said.

Idris explained that the theme, “Unity in Progress: Consolidating the Renewed Hope Agenda,” reflects the party’s vision and direction. The convention will serve as a platform for leadership elections, policy discussions, and strategic planning for the party’s future.

“The convention will bring together delegates from the 36 states and the FCT for policy engagement, leadership elections, and a formal transition to a new set of party executives,” he said.

He added that the event will also provide an opportunity to review the party’s achievements and align its leadership structure with the administration’s policy objectives. “This National Convention marks another milestone in our journey, reflecting continuity of our values and the renewal of our leadership,” Idris stated.

The minister assured that all preparations had been completed to ensure a smooth, transparent, and credible convention at Eagle Square, Abuja. “All arrangements have been concluded for a successful convention,” he said, noting that the committees overseeing the event had finalized their assignments for effective coordination.

Speaking separately, Aminu Masari, former Katsina State Governor and Chairman of the APC National Convention Central Coordinating Committee, confirmed that the party is not aware of any legal action that could disrupt the convention. He noted that the 25 sub-committees responsible for the event have completed their preparations.

“We assure Nigerians and the international community that the APC is fully ready for the 2026 convention, which begins in the early hours of tomorrow,” Masari said.

He also emphasized that the party will strictly adhere to its zoning policy in electing officials. “APC is a responsible party. In line with federal character, all offices are zoned. Aspirants should only seek positions zoned to their region,” Masari stated.

He warned that anyone attempting to contest outside their zone may be aiming to create confusion within the party. “We suspect such individuals may act as agents to destabilize our party, which we will not allow,” he added.
