Fatai Assumes Duty As 42nd Lagos Commissioner Of Police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, confirmed the appointment, noting that Fatai succeeds Olohundare Jimoh, who served as the 41st Commissioner from February 18, 2025, to March 26, 2026.

The statement highlighted that the new police chief is expected to bolster ongoing reforms and enhance security across Lagos State.

A native of Agege Local Government Area, Fatai attended Anwar-ul-Islam College, Agege, from 1979 to 1984, and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy from Ogun State University, now Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent on June 10, 1994.

Prior to this appointment, Fatai served as Commissioner of Police at the Eastern Port Command in Port Harcourt. Throughout his career, he has held several key positions, including Deputy Commissioner of Police in Operations at the Maritime Force Headquarters, Lagos, and Lagos State Command Headquarters in Ikeja, as well as Assistant Commissioner of Police in Finance and Administration at Zone 2 Command, Onikan.

He has also served as Area Commander in Ilaro, Ogun State; Maiduguri Metro, Borno State; and Area C, Surulere, Lagos. His other roles include Squadron Commander of the 5 PMF in Benin and 17 PMF in Akure, Officer-in-Charge of the Homicide Section at the Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, and Divisional Police Officer in Ogere, Ijanikin, and Alakara divisions.

A member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, Fatai assured residents and stakeholders of his commitment to maintaining security, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and improving community partnerships.

The Lagos State Police Command emphasized that Fatai’s “leadership, professionalism, and dedication to duty position him to effectively manage the affairs of the command,” and urged the public to support the new leadership in its mission to protect lives and property while deepening discipline and service delivery.

The 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) began nationwide on Thursday, with over 2.2 million candidates expected to participate across accredited centres.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The exam, conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), will run from April 16 to April 22 in multiple daily sessions.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, urged examination officials to remain highly committed and professional, noting that the success of the exercise depends largely on their dedication.

He gave the charge during a virtual final briefing for technical officers ahead of the examination, where he also praised staff, ad hoc personnel, service providers, and technical advisers for their roles in the successful conduct of the mock exam.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.

He also disclosed that biometric verification and real-time monitoring systems have been deployed to protect the integrity of the exercise.

Candidates whose biometrics cannot be verified, he added, will be rescheduled to write the exam at approved centres.

Meanwhile, a NAN correspondent monitoring proceedings at Aduvie International School, Jahi, reported that the first session scheduled for 8:30 a.m. began slightly behind schedule at about 8:40 a.m.
