Speaking on the Hits Don’t Lie podcast, Konga argued that Davido should have channelled his ₦200 million birthday donation toward assisting struggling music veterans rather than giving it to orphanages.
He suggested that such support could have revived the careers of legends like Baba Fryo and Daddy Showkey.
Konga stressed that younger artistes need to show humility and uplift those who paved the way for them, expressing concern over the lack of recognition and assistance for older stars, many of whom he claimed have been pushed into doing menial jobs abroad.
According to him, if he were part of Davido’s team, he would have advised distributing the funds among veteran musicians to help reignite their careers and inspire a wave of comeback hits.
He also lamented that pioneers like Lord of Ajasa are being overlooked, while credit for international success is often given to newer stars.
Konga further argued that earlier icons such as Fela Kuti, King Sunny Ade, and Majek Fashek had already taken Nigerian music global long before the current generation, even if their achievements were not widely documented.
