Tinubu Orders APC Leaders To Block Gawuna’s Defection To ADC, Aligning With Rabiu Kwankwaso.

Former Nasir Yusuf Gawuna, the 2023 governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State, has become the center of intense political speculation over reports that he may defect from the ruling party.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Party insiders say President Bola Tinubu has instructed senior APC leaders to intervene and persuade Gawuna to stay.

The speculation comes amid reports that Gawuna is considering aligning with Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s Kwankwasiyya movement and potentially joining the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 elections. This move, allegedly aimed at challenging Governor Abba Yusuf in the 2027 governorship race, has stirred unease within the APC.

Supporters of the Kwankwasiyya movement, however, appear enthusiastic about the prospect of his defection. Speculation intensified after a delegation led by the Chief Imam of Gawuna’s mosque, Ahmed Sabo Usman, paid Sallah homage to Kwankwaso at his Kano residence.

Reports indicate that Gawuna has been largely unreachable, fuelling rumors that he is consulting abroad. He is said to have traveled to Saudi Arabia for Umrah during Ramadan and subsequently went on a private vacation in North Africa, keeping his phone on “Do Not Disturb” to avoid pressure from party leaders.

The situation has prompted high-level political interventions. Sources reveal that Governor Abba Yusuf contacted the presidency to urge Gawuna to remain in the APC, while President Tinubu deployed a senior senator from Zamfara State and a presidential adviser to engage in discussions with him. Reports suggest the party may offer Gawuna an automatic ticket for the Kano Central Senatorial District in 2027 if he stays.

A political analyst, Aminu Bashir, noted that Gawuna is one of the strongest governorship contenders in Kano. He warned that an alliance with Kwankwaso could split the APC’s support base, given Gawuna’s influence among youth, ulama, and the business community.

Gawuna, who secured over 800,000 votes in the 2023 governorship election, is reportedly frustrated with the APC, feeling sidelined despite his strong electoral performance. Critics argue that party decisions have marginalized him, relegating him to less influential roles while rewarding others with lower performance.

“This is baffling for the APC—to appoint someone who opposed the party as minister while sidelining a candidate who garnered substantial votes to a board chairmanship,” a party insider said.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
