“‘Weak Or Wicked?’ – Omokri Fires At Peter Obi Over Arrest Claim”.

Published

Nigeria’s ambassador-designate to Mexico, Reno Omokri, has accused former presidential candidate Peter Obi of spreading misinformation about Islamic cleric Ahmad Tijjani Umar.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Reports indicate that Obi had earlier claimed Umar was arrested after hosting him. However, the cleric refuted the claim, stating that he was only invited by the Department of State Services (DSS) for questioning and was subsequently released.

Reacting in a statement, Omokri called on Obi to retract and correct the claim.

“Having given false information suggesting that Sheikh Ahmad Tijjani Umar was arrested by the DSS, when in fact he was not, don’t you think it is in the interest of the public and justice to correct the misleading statement?” he said.

Omokri noted that the cleric had personally debunked the allegation in a video, describing Obi’s claim as inaccurate and misleading.

He warned that failure to address the misinformation could have serious implications.

“Failing to correct such a statement may give the impression that you intended to incite public unrest,” he added.

The former presidential aide described the situation as a test of leadership, urging Obi to take responsibility for his remarks.

“This is a test of leadership. Will you acknowledge the error and correct it, or allow the false narrative to persist?” he asked.

Omokri further argued that while mistakes are human, refusing to correct them is far more concerning.

“Making a mistake is human weakness, but refusing to correct it when you have the opportunity is far worse,” he said.

He concluded by challenging Obi to clarify his position.

“So, Peter, which is it? Are you weak or unwilling to admit the truth?” he asked.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.

The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
