“‘Baseless And Spurious’ – APC Blasts Fubara Over Lawsuit Against Convention”.

Published

on

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed concerns that its upcoming national convention could be disrupted by a legal challenge, insisting that the event will go ahead as planned.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The party’s National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, stated on Tuesday that there is no threat to the convention scheduled for Saturday in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

Basiru affirmed that the exercise would be conducted in accordance with the Constitution, the Electoral Act, and the APC’s internal guidelines.

He described a lawsuit filed by a South-South national vice chairmanship aspirant, Ambassador Fubara Dagogo, as “spurious and lacking in merit.”

The national secretary also revealed that he had not been formally served with any court documents related to the case.

“We have not received any court summons. The position he is contesting is not decided at the national convention; it is a zonal position. The South-South Vice Chairman is elected at the zonal level,” Basiru explained.

“Without prejudice, we only heard about his complaint through the media. Nothing will stop the convention. I have not received any request from him for nomination forms. There are laid-down procedures.”

Over 7,200 delegates are expected to attend the convention, which will be held at Eagle Square in Abuja.

Ahead of the event, the party is conducting zonal congresses across the six geopolitical zones to elect key regional leaders, including zonal vice chairmen and other executives. The South-South zonal congress, where the position being contested by Dagogo will be determined, is scheduled to take place in Asaba, Delta State.

Basiru urged party members to familiarize themselves with the APC constitution, stressing that the legal action cannot halt a process that does not directly concern the plaintiff.

“People should study the Constitution. You cannot stop a process that does not involve you,” he added.

The controversy follows a suit filed by Dagogo, who is also the Director-General of the APC States Assembly Forum. He approached the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking to stop the convention, alleging that he was denied access to expression of interest and nomination forms despite paying the required ₦5.1 million fee.

In the suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/591/2026, the Rivers State indigene is asking the court to interpret issues surrounding the payment acknowledgment receipt issued to him on March 13, 2026, as well as the party’s timetable for congresses and the national convention.

The defendants in the case include the APC, its National Chairman Victor Giadom, and the National Organising Secretary, Suleiman Mohammed Argungu.

Dagogo is seeking a perpetual injunction to restrain the party from conducting the South-South zonal congress scheduled for March 25, 2026. His lawyer, Chief OAU Onyema, said the suit aims to protect internal democracy within the party.

“This is not just about one individual’s exclusion but about safeguarding the integrity of the APC and restoring its founding principles,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Aspirants Screening Committee, chaired by Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji, has cleared several contenders for the election into the party’s National Working Committee.

Those cleared include National Chairman Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, Basiru, National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, and his deputy Duro Meseko, among others.

The screening exercise was conducted at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja, where aspirants’ credentials were verified before they were excused.

Momodu Defends Atiku Amid Age Criticism Ahead Of 2027 Presidential Contest.

Published

ADC chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed calls for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, describing the push as unfair and politically motivated.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Momodu was reacting to comments by activist Zekeri Idris Jnr, a supporter of Peter Obi, who urged Atiku to step aside over concerns about his age, which would be about 80 by 2027.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Momodu said attention should be focused on holding the government accountable rather than targeting Atiku’s political ambition.

The exchange followed a viral video where Idris insisted that Atiku should support younger aspirants instead of contesting, arguing that voters would not back an elderly candidate.

Idris also suggested that Atiku should act as a statesman and support younger politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.

Responding, Momodu cited several world leaders who held office at advanced ages, arguing that experience should not be dismissed in leadership discussions.

He questioned what should disqualify Atiku from contesting, insisting that age alone is not a valid reason.

Atiku, who lost the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Tinubu, is reportedly considering another run in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
