Osimhen Confirms Surgery, Praises Mikel Obi And Ighalo.
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has confirmed he will undergo surgery on a fractured right forearm, sidelining him for up to six weeks following Galatasaray’s 4-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Osimhen revealed the injury during a livestream with influencer Carter Efe, describing the early collision with Ibrahima Konate that forced him off just 10 minutes into the round of 16 second leg.
“I need to go under the knife. Surgery is necessary to fix my arm. It will take a maximum of five to six weeks—most of the time four weeks, then two weeks to train alone before rejoining the team,” he said.
The striker explained that he only realized the severity of the injury when trying to continue playing.
“I went for the ball at the same time as the defender. I didn’t expect his knee to land on my arm. Initially, I thought it would be fine by the end of the match, but when I tried to run, the pain stopped me in my tracks—it felt as though my arm was falling off,” Osimhen recalled.
Still wearing a protective mask from a previous facial injury, the 27-year-old downplayed the setback.
“I’ve been through worse. I still have 18 screws in my face from my previous operation and can’t eat properly on the right side. Compared to that, this injury is minor,” he said.
Osimhen also revealed that both Dominik Szoboszlai and Konate reached out after the match to check on him.
“Szoboszlai came to me after the game, saying he didn’t know how serious the injury was. Konate also messaged me, saying he didn’t mean to hurt me. It’s football; these things happen,” he added.
Osimhen has returned to Nigeria ahead of surgery and thanked Galatasaray for their support.
“They saved me when I was at rock bottom. After I signed, even my daughter grew fonder of them than of me. I will always be grateful to the club,” he said.
The striker is expected to miss key league matches against Trabzonspor and Kocaelispor and faces a race to be fit for the Istanbul derby against Fenerbahce on April 26. This season, he has tallied 19 goals and seven assists in all competitions.
Osimhen Hails Mikel Obi and Ighalo
During the livestream, Osimhen also shared a personal story about former Nigeria captain John Obi Mikel, recalling a gesture that left a lasting impression on him early in his national team career.
“When I was first invited to the Super Eagles, Mikel Obi asked me to follow him to his room after a team meal and handed me money,” he said.
Osimhen reflected on growing up in Lagos, watching national team stars like Nwankwo Kanu, Jay-Jay Okocha, and John Obi Mikel, and later sharing a dressing room with them. He also praised former striker Odion Ighalo for his impact both on and off the pitch.
“He is an amazing human being, a great player, a legend, and has had a major influence on me,” Osimhen said.
