The call was made at the 9th edition of the “Ibadan Eldfest”, held at the Ibadan Central Mosque on Saturday. The program was designed to allow Muslims in Ibadan to recreate, relax, connect with peers, and share experiences after Ramadan and was attended by thousands, including children, parents, Islamic clerics, academics, professionals, students, and youths.

Dr. Daud Amoo Alaga, an Ibadan-based Islamic scholar and preacher, advised Muslims not to abandon the moral and spiritual discipline cultivated during Ramadan.

“The Qur’an says in Surah Al-Baqarah (2:183) that fasting is meant to make us pious. Ramadan trains our minds, speech, and bodies to follow divine guidance. The key is to maintain these practices even after the fast. Spiritual growth is continuous, and this type of gathering encourages it,” Alaga said, praising the organizers and sponsors for the event.

Iskil Yussuf, retired Controller of Correctional Service and Executive Secretary of the Child Development and Concern Foundation, also encouraged Muslims to integrate the lessons of Ramadan into daily life.

“We thank God for bringing us to the end of Ramadan and pray for more opportunities to observe it. This 9th edition of the program is a unique way to relax after the demanding period of fasting. Ramadan is challenging, but events like this provide a joyful and meaningful conclusion,” he said.

Alhaji Abdulrahman Balogun, Director of Media, Public Relations and Protocols at Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) and National President of Muslim Media Practitioners of Nigeria (MMPN), highlighted the broader lessons of Ramadan.

“Ramadan is like a retreat that teaches the ideal practice of Islam: fasting, prayer, charity, and proper conduct among Muslims and non-Muslims alike. Outside Ramadan, we must continue applying these lessons. Events like this also create spaces for children and families to connect, relax, and share experiences,” Balogun said.

Mahmudat Yussuf, convener of the event, explained that the festival provides an opportunity for Muslims to come together to recreate, greet one another, have fun, and exchange ideas.

“We started this event in 2018 because Eid celebrations were often seen as dull with no recreational activities. We wanted to create a space that brings everyone together to celebrate in a festive, amusement-park-style setting. That is why so many people participate with their families, children, and friends,” she said.

Daniel Bwala, an aide to President Tinubu, warns that Atiku Abubakar’s 2027 presidential bid is in trouble. Bwala claims Atiku has lost the critical support of governors and lawmakers he enjoyed in 2023, leaving him vulnerable to being outperformed by Peter Obi.
