“Bring Proof, Get ₦1bn” – Umahi Fires Back, Drags Tracy Ohiri To Court.
The Minister of Works, David Umahi, has initiated moves to take legal action against businesswoman Tracy Ohiri following renewed allegations over a ₦250 million debt linked to promotional and printing services during his 2015 governorship campaign in Ebonyi State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The dispute between both parties has lingered for years, with Ohiri previously accusing the Minister of sexual harassment and failure to settle campaign-related payments. She alleged that her repeated demands for payment were met with advances she rejected, which later escalated into threats and police involvement.
Ohiri was earlier arrested in Lagos over claims of cyberbullying tied to her social media posts on the matter and was later transferred to Abuja, where she was detained at the FCT Police Command. She was subsequently arraigned before a magistrate court in Wuse on a defamation charge and granted bail.
Amid intense public reactions, Ohiri later issued a viral apology, withdrawing her allegations after her lawyer, Marshall Abubakar, intervened. However, she returned days later with fresh claims, alleging she was pressured into making the retraction and that a promised settlement was not fulfilled before the video was released.
In response, Umahi, through his Senior Special Assistant on Media, Francis Nwaz, challenged Ohiri to provide verifiable evidence of her claims, stating she would receive ₦1 billion if she could substantiate them.
The Minister maintained that no financial agreement was reached with Ohiri and clarified that her lawyer acted independently in an attempt to resolve the issue. He also directed his legal team to proceed with court action if she fails to present credible evidence.
According to the statement, Umahi had given two options—either the matter be settled in court or Ohiri presents full proof, including communications and records, to support her claims.
The Minister further noted that he had remained silent for years despite repeated accusations but decided to respond due to recent developments, stressing the need to establish the truth.
