Blue Line Extension: LAMATA Stands By Compensation For Residents Affected.
The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has refuted claims that compensation paid to tenants and property owners affected by its Ojo-area project was linked to inducement.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The agency emphasized that all payments were made in strict compliance with policies approved by the Lagos State Government, following due process at every stage.
In a statement posted on its official account on Friday, March 20, LAMATA described the inducement claims as baseless.
“LAMATA firmly rejects any suggestion of inducement. All compensation payments are strictly guided by Lagos State Government-approved policies designed to ensure fairness and support relocation,” the authority said.
LAMATA noted that Lagos is the only subnational government in Nigeria that provides compensation to tenants in such cases, citing similar precedents during the Red Line and Blue Line rail projects.
The agency added that compensation for affected properties is determined using globally recognized benchmarks.
“Valuation of developments on lands to be acquired is done based on ‘Replacement Cost,’ in line with international standards,” the statement said.
The authority reiterated that the land was lawfully acquired in the overriding public interest to support a major rail infrastructure project, aimed at improving mobility and easing transportation challenges.
“The land has been lawfully acquired to support a critical rail project that will move thousands of commuters daily, boost economic activity, and enhance quality of life along the Marina–Okokomaiko–Agbara corridor,” it said.
LAMATA also highlighted that the Blue Line will integrate with the proposed Purple Line at the Volkswagen axis, further enhancing connectivity across Lagos State.
“As a public institution guided by due process and international best practices, LAMATA operates strictly within the law,” the statement concluded.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
