His response followed growing speculation suggesting he was planning to switch allegiance to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking briefly with journalists on Wednesday after the swearing-in of 17 newly appointed permanent secretaries at the Government House in Bauchi, the governor played down the rumours and declined to give a detailed interview at the time. He stated that he would address the matter more fully later in the day during a scheduled media appearance.
“I have not moved; they said that I have defected,” Mohammed said, dismissing the reports. He also described himself as “an international figure in politics,” noting that he would provide further clarification subsequently.
The oath of office for the newly appointed permanent secretaries was administered by the Chief Judge of Bauchi State, Talatu Musa Umar, during a ceremony held at the Government House, marking another phase in the administration’s civil service reform agenda.
Addressing the appointees, the governor urged them to demonstrate integrity and professionalism in their duties, warning that his administration would not condone corruption or any actions capable of tarnishing the image of the government.
He further advised them to remain disciplined, avoid insubordination, and steer clear of partisan politics while serving in office. Mohammed also stressed the importance of mentorship, encouraging the new officials to guide and develop younger officers within the civil service.
According to him, the ongoing reforms are aimed at building a new generation of competent and ethical professionals in the state’s workforce.
The governor also reassured retirees of his commitment to settling outstanding gratuities estimated at about ₦20 billion, revealing that payment of the 13-year backlog commenced in January 2026 and would be cleared gradually.
Earlier reports had suggested that Mohammed was considering a defection to the APC, with some claiming the move could happen within days. However, his latest remarks appear to have dispelled the speculation, as he reaffirmed his continued loyalty to the PDP.
