IGP Cracks Down On Police Role In Political Conflicts.

Published

on

The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, is reportedly taking measures to limit the involvement of the Nigeria Police Force in politically sensitive matters across the country.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to sources familiar with the development who spoke with Sahara Reporters, the initiative is intended to reinforce professionalism and ensure neutrality in policing.

The move comes after a controversy in Osun State, where police personnel were deployed to local government secretariats amid a dispute over the tenure of council chairmen. The matter, currently before the courts, drew national attention and raised questions about the role of the police in political disputes.

Court documents indicate that the tenures of the affected chairmen expired in October 2025, though some reportedly continued to occupy their offices. Sources at Force Headquarters revealed that the IGP is reviewing legal briefs and internal reports to ensure the police are not seen as supporting the unlawful occupation of offices.

Directives are expected to be issued soon to withdraw police officers from disputed local government secretariats and redeploy them to routine duties. The planned orders are also aimed at addressing concerns over the police’s involvement in political petitions and arrests connected to political actors.

One source described the action as part of broader reforms to strengthen impartiality within the Force. “The new IGP is planning reforms to restore the integrity of the police. The report he received in the case involving Osun, for instance, highlighted concerns about public perception and the need for neutrality,” the source said.

The source added, “He has clear instructions to ensure a level playing field for all political parties, directly from the National Security Adviser and the President.”

Meanwhile, a Federal High Court in Osogbo has rejected applications seeking to delay proceedings in a suit over the tenure of local government officials in Osun State. Justice A.A. Demi-Ajayi dismissed two applications filed by counsel to the All Progressives Congress seeking adjournment, stating that the matter had been prolonged and the court would no longer entertain “needless adjournment in the interest of justice.”

The suit, filed by APC officials, seeks judicial clarification on the legality of their tenure. While the plaintiffs argued that a Court of Appeal judgment restored them to office, the defendants contended that the decision had been misinterpreted and that the continued occupation of secretariats amounted to disobedience of earlier court rulings.

The court has directed all parties to present their cases as it prepares to deliver judgment.

“We Will Rig You!”: Peter Obi Issues Explosive Warning To INEC Over Alleged Election Manipulation!.

Published

on

During a recent visit to Washington, D.C., Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), argued that the prevalence of election rigging in Nigeria is largely due to voters failing to actively defend their ballots. Obi emphasized that while candidates play a role in the process, credible outcomes ultimately depend on citizens remaining at their polling units to ensure votes are counted transparently. He criticized the “transactional” nature of Nigerian politics, suggesting that many voters prioritize other activities over the essential task of monitoring the electoral process. According to Obi, Nigeria’s primary challenge is poor political leadership, and he urged citizens to take collective ownership of their votes to demand the accountable governance required for the country to succeed.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), has called for increased citizen involvement in protecting electoral integrity. During a recent trip to Washington, D.C., Obi stated that election manipulation persists because voters frequently leave polling stations before the counting process is completed. He argued that:

  • Voters must proactively defend their ballots at polling units to ensure transparency and prevent rigging.

  • Nigeria’s fundamental obstacle is a crisis of political leadership, rather than a lack of natural or human resources.

  • Real change requires Nigerians to move beyond passive participation and take active responsibility for the electoral process.

  • Call for Unity: The Minister urged Nigerians to prioritize national interest over partisan politics, noting that insecurity is not a tool for scoring political points.
