“Senegal Demands Probe Into CAF Over Controversial AFCON 2025 Decision!”.

Published

on

The Senegalese government has demanded an independent international investigation into alleged corruption within the Confederation of African Football (CAF) following the organization’s decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award it to Morocco. According to reports, Senegal defeated Morocco 1-0 in January’s final, but CAF overturned the result on March 17, declaring the match forfeited after Senegalese players walked off in protest over a stoppage-time penalty decision.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The players eventually returned after a 17-minute delay, during which Brahim Diaz missed the penalty, and Pape Gueye later scored the winning goal in extra time. Following an appeal by the Moroccan Football Association, CAF recorded the result as a 3-0 victory in Morocco’s favor.

In a strongly worded statement, the Senegalese government described the ruling as “unprecedented and exceptionally serious,” asserting that it was based on “a manifestly erroneous interpretation of the regulations, leading to a grossly illegal and deeply unjust decision.” The statement added, “Senegal unequivocally rejects this unjustified attempt at dispossession.”

The Senegalese Football Federation has confirmed its intention to challenge the ruling at the Court of Arbitration for Sport. FSF Secretary General Abdoulaye Seydou Sow said, “This decision is a breach of trust that is not based on any rule of law. We felt that the jury wasn’t there to uphold the law, but to carry out an order. We will stop at nothing. The law is on our side. The fight is far from over. Senegal will defend its rights to the very end.”

Several players have also refused to accept the verdict. Midfielder Idrissa Gueye wrote, “We know what we experienced that evening in Rabat. No one can take that away from us.” The walk-off has prompted wider scrutiny, with the International Football Association Board initiating consultations on handling similar incidents in the future.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino criticized the protest, calling it “unacceptable to leave the field of play in this manner” and emphasizing that such incidents must not recur. The final, held in Rabat, had already been marred by controversial refereeing decisions and VAR interventions.

CAF’s ruling has also faced criticism from within the football community. Former disciplinary chief Raymond Hack argued that the outcome fuels perceptions of political interference, noting that Moroccan FA President Fouzi Lekjaa also serves as CAF’s first vice-president. “The game should be won on the field of play, not in a boardroom,” Hack said.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
