“Sallah Durbar Uncertain As Sanusi Meets Gov Yusuf’s Team”.
According to Nivo News, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has held a closed-door meeting with a delegation representing Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, just hours after hosting top government officials for an Iftar at his palace. The development has intensified speculation over the Kano State Government’s position in the ongoing emirship dispute.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The meeting, which took place at the historic Gidan Rumfa palace, comes amid heightened tensions surrounding the unresolved contest over the Kano emirship stool. Confirmation of the engagement was provided by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, in a Facebook post on Wednesday.
Members of the delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Ibrahim, and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Sulaiman Wali Sani. The spokesperson noted that the meeting occurred shortly after the Iftar gathering at the Emir’s palace.
The development comes at a sensitive period as Kano State prepares for the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, particularly the traditional Sallah Durbar, a historic cultural procession that draws widespread attention. However, uncertainty continues to surround the event due to mixed signals from government officials regarding whether it will take place this year.
The confusion is linked to the lingering legal battle between Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero over the emirship position. Although Governor Yusuf reinstated Sanusi II in 2024, Bayero has continued to challenge his removal in court, leaving the traditional institution entangled in legal and political uncertainty.
While the state government has recently suggested that a resolution may be imminent, the Iftar gathering and subsequent private meeting have further fuelled perceptions of growing alignment between the administration and Sanusi II.
