The recovery followed intelligence from the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU), which flagged suspicious transactions linked to two individuals, Abdullahi Garba and Ayuba Sani. Acting on this information, EFCC operatives investigated the case and successfully recovered the full amount. Both suspects were subsequently charged to court; Garba pleaded guilty and was sentenced to two years in prison, while Sani remains on trial.
During the handover ceremony, Acting Zonal Director of EFCC Kano, Assistant Commander Friday S. Ebelo, emphasized that the recovery demonstrates the agency’s commitment to ensuring stolen public funds are returned to their rightful owners. “The EFCC will continue to pursue the recovery of proceeds of crime and ensure that justice is served. Funds meant for citizens’ development must not be diverted for private gain,” he stated.
Receiving the funds on behalf of the state government, Haruna commended the EFCC for its efforts, noting that the recovered money would directly benefit the people of Jigawa State and highlighting the critical role of anti-corruption institutions in safeguarding public resources.
