“Peter Obi Sounds Alarm Over Rising Insecurity In Nigeria”
.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Labour Party 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi has raised serious concerns over the state of insecurity in Nigeria following multiple explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State.
In a statement shared on his handle, Obi described the tragic incident as a stark reminder of the government’s failure to protect lives and property. He warned that the lack of a strong national response to such attacks risks normalizing insecurity instead of addressing it decisively.
Obi extended condolences to families who lost loved ones in the explosions and wished a speedy recovery to those injured. He also referenced recent attacks across several states, including Kwara, Nasarawa, Kogi, Plateau, Sokoto, Benue, and the Federal Capital Territory, noting the growing pattern of violence and instability.
“The nation is once again engulfed in grief and outrage following the horrific explosions in Maiduguri, Borno State. These tragic events are a painful reminder of how far we have strayed from the fundamental duty of governance: the protection of lives and property,” Obi said.
He highlighted that coordinated attacks targeting vulnerable locations such as markets and hospitals have left over a hundred people injured, stressing that the silence of national authorities reflects a troubling normalization of insecurity. Obi also cited reports from Katsina State, where communities are reportedly being forced to pay a “Peace Tax” to armed groups to ensure their survival.
Obi called for urgent, decisive action from government leaders, emphasizing that protecting citizens must take precedence over ceremonial visits or other engagements. He concluded by offering prayers for the victims and their families and urged the nation to rise with responsibility, urgency, and compassion to confront insecurity.
