“NSC Reacts As D’Tigress Captain Ogoke Retires At 35”.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko praised Ogoke for her outstanding contributions to Nigerian basketball, noting that both President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and First Lady Oluremi Tinubu are proud of her achievements. He highlighted Ogoke’s influence as a player, mother, wife, and medical doctor, emphasizing the inspiration she has provided to millions of women and girls across Nigeria and beyond.
Dikko also commended the Nigeria Basketball Federation and Xejet for honouring the athlete, adding that Ogoke retires at a time when the welfare of Nigerian athletes is a national priority. Director-General Bukola Olopade described Ogoke as a “living legend” whose accomplishments set a benchmark for future generations. He praised her for balancing a stellar basketball career with her medical profession and family life, noting that her expertise will continue to benefit Nigerian sports even after retirement.
Ogoke bows out as one of Nigeria’s most decorated female basketball players, having won five AfroBasket titles with the national team since 2017. Beyond her achievements on the court, she is also recognised for her contributions as a medical doctor, mother, and wife.
Meanwhile, D’Tigress aim to honour their former captain with a victory over Germany in their final game at the FIBA Women’s World Cup qualification tournament in Lyon on Tuesday.
