The President of the Nigerian Correctional Officers’ Wives Association, Ebelechukwu Obiano, has called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to rehabilitate and restore the abandoned Ngwo Borstal Institute.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to Nivo News, Obiano made the appeal during a visit to the facility located in Ngwo, within Udi Local Government Area, where she expressed concern about the deteriorating state of the institution designed for the rehabilitation of juvenile offenders. She noted that leaving the institute abandoned undermines efforts to reform young offenders and deprives them of opportunities for education, counselling, and vocational training necessary for their reintegration into society.

Obiano emphasized that borstal institutions play a crucial role in addressing youth indiscipline by providing structured rehabilitation programmes that equip young offenders with practical skills and guidance to become responsible and productive members of society.

She therefore urged the government, through the Federal Ministry of Interior and the Nigerian Correctional Service, to urgently rehabilitate the facility and restore it to full operational capacity. According to her, reviving the institute would significantly strengthen Nigeria’s juvenile justice system and contribute to reducing crime among young people.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
