Okonkwo Throws Support Behind Peter Obi For ADC Presidential Ticket.

As preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, a member of the House of Representatives representing Idemili North and South Federal Constituency, Harris Okonkwo, has voiced confidence that former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, will clinch the presidential ticket of the African Democratic Congress.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okonkwo made the remark while speaking with journalists in Ojoto during a medical outreach organised by the Annie Okonkwo Foundation for residents of his constituency.

The lawmaker, who recently defected from the Labour Party to the ADC, said he and his supporters were ready to work toward ensuring Obi emerges as the party’s presidential candidate.

“I believe Nigerians understand what is best for them. The positive aspect is that the primaries will no longer rely on delegates, as the process will either be through consensus or direct primaries,” he said.

According to him, the final decision on the party’s presidential candidate will ultimately rest with the people.

Okonkwo also criticised certain aspects of the recently amended Electoral Act, arguing that some provisions could restrict freedom of association and political participation.

“Freedom of association and political participation should never be compromised. I opposed that provision, but we were in the minority and the majority had its way,” he stated.

He added that while the law may prevent individuals from holding membership in multiple political parties, it should not stop people from supporting candidates from other parties.

“Someone may belong to one party but still choose to back a candidate in another party. There should be no restriction on freedom of association,” he added.

The lawmaker also criticised what he described as poor management of national resources, urging government officials to prioritise the welfare of citizens.

“Our focus should be on how the Nigerian government manages the nation’s resources and the level of extravagance that continues at the expense of the people. Ultimately, truth will prevail,” Okonkwo said.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
