“I Don’t Step Out Without Reading Newspapers First” – Tinubu.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reassured Nigerians that the well-being of citizens remains a top priority for his administration, revealing that he keeps himself updated on national developments by reading newspapers every morning before leaving home.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The president made the remark during an interfaith breaking of fast with senior journalists and media executives at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja.

According to Tinubu, following daily news reports has become a routine he rarely skips.

“There’s no morning that I leave my house without going through the newspapers. It’s almost like an addiction. I read all of you,” he said.

He noted that although he may not go through every report in detail, he pays attention to headlines and stories that catch his interest.

Reflecting on the early days of his administration, Tinubu admitted he was initially “a little bit stubborn,” explaining that he was focused on identifying opportunities to fix existing problems and improve the lives of ordinary Nigerians.

The president also highlighted steps taken by his government to deepen true federalism, particularly by enabling local governments to receive allocations directly from the federal government.

Tinubu further stressed that Nigeria’s development is a shared responsibility and should not be left solely to the federal government.

He urged the media to also scrutinize state and local governments, especially now that lower tiers of government enjoy greater financial autonomy.

“We’ve strengthened the principle of federalism to the point where local governments now receive their funds directly. But how they use that money is something you must also monitor,” he said.

The president encouraged journalists not to focus criticism only on the federal government but to extend the same level of accountability to other levels of governance.

He added that while Nigerians may feel progress is slower than expected, the country must manage available resources carefully to ensure stability today while building a better future.

Tinubu also claimed that states are no longer borrowing money solely to pay workers’ salaries.

“Yes, we can complain that it’s not enough or that we are not where we should be, but we must manage what we have to sustain today, survive tomorrow, and continue making progress,” he stated.

Reaffirming his commitment to national development, the former Lagos State governor said he remains dedicated to improving the country through patriotic service.

“The work I’m doing is driven by dedication and patriotism to make Nigeria better. In the end, it’s a responsibility we all share,” Tinubu added.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
