Godswill Akpabio, the President of the Senate, has said that politicians who are defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC) are doing so as a sign of appreciation for the achievements of the administration led by Bola Tinubu.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Akpabio made the remark on Friday in Abuja during the inauguration of the APC convention sub-committee on programmes and events. He explained that when Tinubu assumed office in 2023, he inherited what he described as a “foamy economy.”

According to him, the government has since taken important steps aimed at stabilising the country’s economic situation.

He also assured that the National Assembly would continue backing the reform policies introduced by the Tinubu administration.

“The National Assembly will keep supporting the agenda of President Tinubu as he works to move the country out of its current challenges,” he said.

Akpabio added that the president encountered a fragile economy upon taking office and had to make difficult decisions to address the situation.

He noted that the administration moved to harmonise the exchange rate and remove fuel subsidy, which he described as a major drain on the nation’s finances.

The Senate President further said the government has introduced tax reforms to boost revenue generation.

According to him, the reforms have helped increase government income from the non-oil sector through the National Revenue Service.

He added that the policy changes have also led to higher allocations for state and local governments.

Akpabio concluded that the growing number of opposition politicians joining the APC shows increasing confidence in the policies of the current administration.

“The recent defections into the ruling APC are simply a reflection of appreciation for what the government has achieved since 2023,” he said.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
