Tonto Dikeh Hit With ₦200m Lawsuit Over Viral School Deliverance Video.

A human rights lawyer, Ikechukwu Obasi, has filed a lawsuit against Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh over a viral video showing her conducting a deliverance session on a schoolgirl in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The case was instituted at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory in Abuja under the Fundamental Rights (Enforcement Procedure) Rules 2009. The lawyer is asking the court to determine that the actress’s actions violated the fundamental rights of the child involved.

The suit was filed on behalf of the minor, a Junior Secondary School One student at Junior Secondary School, Durumi II, Abuja, who is reportedly from Rivers State.

According to court documents, Obasi stated in an affidavit that he discovered the video and photographs on the actress’s official Facebook page on March 6, 2026. The footage allegedly shows Dikeh performing what he described as a forceful religious deliverance on the student during a visit to the school.

The affidavit claims that during the session, the child was placed on bare ground and restrained against a rough surface while the ritual was carried out. The lawyer argued that the incident amounted to harassment and exposed the student to public humiliation.

He further told the court that the situation undermined the dignity of the child and could subject her to shame and emotional distress, especially after the video circulated widely on social media.

Obasi also raised concerns about the publication of the child’s images and videos online, arguing that sharing the footage without adequately protecting her identity violated her right to privacy under the Nigerian Constitution and the Child Rights Act.

He added that portraying the student as being possessed by evil spirits and attempting to cast them out could subject her to discrimination and ridicule from her peers and the public. According to him, such actions go beyond normal religious practices and may expose minors to stigma, particularly in communities where beliefs about witchcraft and spiritual attacks are prevalent.

Through the suit, the lawyer is asking the court to declare that the alleged deliverance ritual breached the child’s right to dignity as guaranteed under Section 34 of the 1999 Constitution, as well as provisions of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights and the Child Rights Act.

He is also seeking a declaration that conducting religious rituals on children in such a manner violates their fundamental rights.

In addition, Obasi asked the court to order the actress to delete all videos and photographs related to the incident from her social media platforms and to issue a public apology to the child and Nigerian children in three national newspapers.

The suit also seeks an order restraining the actress from carrying out similar deliverance rituals on any child in Nigeria in the future.

Furthermore, the lawyer is requesting that the court award ₦200 million in damages for the alleged violation of the child’s rights to dignity and privacy. According to him, the student has already experienced stigmatization following the widespread circulation of the video online.

The award-winning actress made this revelation during an interview with CNN journalist Larry Madowo, where she spoke candidly about her emotional struggles and the pressures that come with being a public figure.

Akindele disclosed that when things become overwhelming, she sometimes locks herself in her room to cry and release her emotions. However, she said she eventually gathers the strength to pick herself up and face life’s challenges.

The filmmaker also discussed the pressure of living in the public eye, particularly the scrutiny surrounding her marriages and relationship breakups.

She admitted that there are moments when she questions her decisions and worries about how people might judge her choices.

“I cry. I lock myself in the room, cry, break down, hit the bed. But I just pick up myself and come back to life. Sometimes I tell myself, ah, you’ve made a mistake again. How are people going to judge you?

“Do you care about that? Why don’t you just brace up, face it, face the challenges, move on in life? I’ve noticed over the years that it’s not all about the work. You need to take care of yourself. You need to love yourself. You need to have time for your family, your loved ones, because as the work would go, the family would be there,” she said.

Akindele further emphasised the importance of self-care, self-love and making time for family, noting that professional success should not come at the expense of personal well-being and relationships.

The Senate has confirmed Dr Salamatu Hussaini Suleiman as Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) and Dr Abdullahi Maikano Saidu as Executive Chairman of the Fiscal Responsibility Commission.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Suleiman’s confirmation was approved alongside that of 10 other members of the NHRC, while Saidu was confirmed together with six other members representing Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.

President Bola Tinubu nominated the appointees, Naija News reports.

The Senate’s approval clears the way for the nominees to assume their respective positions in the two federal commissions.

Meanwhile, President Tinubu has forwarded a bill to the Senate seeking to expand Nigeria’s legal framework for transferring convicted offenders to and from countries outside the Commonwealth.

The proposed legislation, known as the Transfer of Convicted Offenders (Enactment and Enforcement) Amendment Bill, 2026, was presented in a letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during plenary on Tuesday.

The bill seeks to amend the Transfer of Convicted Offenders (Enactment and Enforcement) Act, Cap. T16, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

Under the proposed amendment, the President would be empowered to extend the provisions of the Act to any country with which Nigeria has entered into a prisoner-transfer agreement. Such an extension would be made through an order published in the Federal Gazette.

Tinubu explained that the amendment would provide the legal backing required to implement agreements reached between Nigeria and foreign governments on the transfer of convicted persons.

According to the President, the proposed law would establish a framework for enforcing such arrangements with countries outside the Commonwealth, giving the Federal Government greater flexibility in negotiating and implementing prisoner-transfer agreements.

Such agreements generally allow inmates to serve their sentences in another country under mutually agreed conditions while addressing the legal and administrative challenges associated with transferring prisoners across borders.

In his letter to the Senate, Tinubu urged lawmakers to give the bill urgent consideration.

“While it is my hope that the Senate will consider this submission expeditiously, please accept, Distinguished Senate President and Distinguished Senators, the assurances of my highest consideration,” he stated.

The bill was transmitted to the National Assembly pursuant to Section 58(2) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended. It must undergo the required legislative process before it can become law.

The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nentawe Yilwatda, has challenged the African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, to identify a major project worth ₦10 billion that he executed in Plateau State while serving in government.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that Yilwatda issued the challenge on Wednesday during an event organised by the PBAT Door-to-Door Movement in Jos, the Plateau State capital, while soliciting support for President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general election.

The APC chairman claimed that the projects Atiku’s administration delivered to Plateau State during his eight-year tenure as vice president were limited to initiatives such as boreholes and the distribution of Keke Napep tricycles.

“Atiku was vice president for eight years. Show me one road or one thing that we had on the Plateau. Show me one ₦10 billion project on the Plateau within that period.

“The best we can have in those days is a borehole, or they bring ‘Keke Napep’ for us. Today, the president is bringing major projects on the Plateau,” Yilwatda said.

He highlighted a university and the Federal Medical Centre among projects he associated with Tinubu’s administration, arguing that the president had made efforts to address challenges in healthcare, education, infrastructure and security.

Yilwatda identified insecurity as the most pressing concern facing residents of Plateau State and credited Tinubu with taking steps to tackle the problem.

“If you ask any Plateau man, ‘What is your problem?’ The number one problem is insecurity, and Mr President has addressed it,” he stated.
