President Bola Tinubu’s administration, through the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), has granted another extension for its Student Loan Application Portal, allowing more students to complete applications for the 2025/2026 academic session.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to NELFUND, the extension specifically targets tertiary institutions that formally requested extra time to enable their students to participate in the programme.

The announcement was made in a statement on Thursday by NELFUND’s Director of Strategic Communications, Oseyemi Oluwatuyi, noting that the decision followed appeals from some institutions seeking additional time for eligible students to finalise their applications.

“The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has approved an extension of its Student Loan Application Portal for institutions that have formally requested additional time for the 2025/2026 academic session,” the statement said.

NELFUND explained that the extension offers students in the affected institutions an added opportunity to complete their applications via the official portal.

Commenting on the development, NELFUND’s Managing Director and CEO, Akintunde Sawyerr, reiterated the agency’s commitment to ensuring eligible Nigerian students can access the financial support provided under the student loan scheme. He highlighted that the programme is designed to remove financial barriers that hinder students from pursuing higher education.

“NELFUND remains committed to ensuring that eligible students across participating institutions have the opportunity to access the student loan programme,” Sawyerr said.

The Fund also encouraged students in institutions covered by the extension to take advantage of the additional time to submit their applications. NELFUND stressed that all applications must be completed through the official portal to ensure proper processing and verification, while reaffirming its commitment to transparency and accountability in managing the scheme.

The student loan initiative is part of the Federal Government’s effort to expand access to higher education, particularly for students from low-income families. Administered by NELFUND under legislation signed into law by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in April 2024, the programme provides interest-free loans to students in public tertiary institutions nationwide, covering tuition and other educational expenses.

Under the scheme, beneficiaries are required to start repayment only after completing their studies and securing employment. Officials say the initiative aims to ease financial pressure on students while promoting equitable access to tertiary education across Nigeria.

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
