Senate President Godswill Akpabio announced the confirmation after lawmakers approved the nominee through a voice vote at the Committee of the Whole.
Oyedele is set to replace Mrs. Doris Uzoka-Anite as Minister of State for Finance. His screening by the Senate took place on Wednesday, beginning during plenary after Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele moved a motion to admit him into the chamber. Following the motion, senators approved Oyedele’s entry to commence the confirmation process.
He was ushered into the chamber by Basheer Lado, President Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Senate Matters, arriving at around 2:21 pm with several government officials, including Ondo State Commissioner for Justice Kayode Ajulo and former Minister of Defence Tokunbo Kayode.
President Tinubu nominated Oyedele to the ministerial post, replacing Uzoka-Anite, who will now move to the Ministry of Budget and National Planning as Minister of State—her third portfolio in the administration, confirmed last week by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Before his ministerial appointment, Oyedele, from Ikaram, Akoko in Ondo State, served as Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms, which overhauled Nigeria’s tax system.
Aged 50, Oyedele is an economist, accountant, and public policy expert. He earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy and Finance from Yaba College of Technology and a BSc in Applied Accounting from Oxford Brookes University. He also completed executive education programs at the London School of Economics, Yale University, the Gordon Institute of Business Science, and Harvard Kennedy School.
Oyedele spent 22 years at PwC, joining in 2001 and rising to become Fiscal Policy Partner and Africa Tax Leader. He is also a professor at Babcock University in Ogun State and a visiting scholar at Lagos Business School.
