The announcement was made in a statement by the minister’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Mr. Tunde Moshood.
According to the statement, the directive followed a meeting between Keyamo, officials of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and senior ministry personnel.
The minister explained that the decision comes after the suspension of the fully cashless “Access Gate Payment System,” which was previously halted by President Bola Tinubu due to traffic congestion complaints at airport entry points.
“The ministry has resolved to work with concessionaires to introduce a fully automated electronic system at all airport access gates, with the ultimate goal of eliminating cash payments entirely,” Keyamo said.
“In the meantime, a hybrid payment system, allowing both cash and card transactions, will be operational at all airport access gates starting Friday. Motorists with FAAN Go Cashless Cards may continue using them, while other electronic payment options, including POS terminals and approved digital channels, will remain available.”
Keyamo encouraged the public and motorists to obtain and use the FAAN Go Cashless Card, noting that efforts are ongoing to strengthen and fully optimize the cashless system.
He added that the hybrid system temporarily restores the previous access gate arrangement while the ministry works toward implementing a fully automated electronic payment system at airports nationwide.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
