“PDP Crisis Intensifies After Appeal Court Ruling, 2027 Election Hopes At Risk”.
Fresh concerns have emerged over the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a recent Court of Appeal ruling deepens the party’s leadership crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections. Analysts warn that if unresolved, the internal dispute and lingering legal implications could hinder the PDP’s ability to participate in the polls.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The development comes as the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) schedules party primaries and dispute resolutions between April 23 and May 30, 2026, leaving political parties less than three months to conclude candidate selection. Observers fear the ongoing crisis may make meeting these deadlines difficult.
On Monday, the Court of Appeal upheld lower court decisions nullifying the factional national convention that produced Tanimu Kabiru Turaki as PDP national chairman. The appellate court also validated the suspension of the party’s National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, alongside the National Legal Adviser, Deputy Legal Adviser, and National Organising Secretary, citing anti-party activities and violations of the PDP constitution.
While the Turaki-led National Working Committee plans to appeal to the Supreme Court, the Wike-aligned faction insists it will proceed with its national convention set for March 28. Analysts warn that these conflicting approaches could worsen the crisis and complicate preparations for the 2027 elections.
The PDP’s Board of Trustees, led by Adolphus Wabara, is reportedly considering temporary intervention to manage the party until the dispute is resolved. Meanwhile, stakeholders continue consultations to find a path forward.
The Court of Appeal emphasized that the PDP violated constitutional provisions for holding a valid national convention, including failure to serve proper notice to INEC and conduct required congresses in at least 14 states. The original suit was filed by aggrieved PDP members represented by Senior Advocate Joseph Daudu.
Reactions to the ruling are mixed. The Edo State PDP described the decision as a reinforcement of party discipline and constitutional adherence, while presidential hopeful Gbenga Hashim characterized the crisis as a “family quarrel” that must be resolved through dialogue.
Legal expert Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa (SAN) urged internal resolution over prolonged litigation, suggesting the party’s Board of Trustees dissolve existing structures and rebuild the PDP to strengthen it as a credible opposition ahead of 2027.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
The legal notice maintained that the allegations were baseless and intended to damage the reputations of the two entertainers.
