“Staying In PDP Is A Risk” — Okai Reacts To Appeal Court Verdict.

Published

A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Usman Austin Okai, has warned that the ongoing legal disputes within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) could pose serious risks for politicians planning to contest in the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Okai’s comments come after the Court of Appeal (Nigeria) ruling on March 9, 2026, which upheld a Federal High Court (Nigeria) injunction preventing recognition of the disputed PDP Ibadan convention.

In a statement released on Monday, Okai argued that the appellate court’s decision may indicate how the Supreme Court of Nigeria could eventually rule on the matter.

He therefore urged members of the PDP Governors’ Forum, including Seyi Makinde and Bala Mohammed, as well as the Turaki-led faction within the party, to consider joining the ADC before the upcoming ward congresses begin.

According to Okai, the ADC is well positioned to provide a political platform for those who may be displaced by what he described as the PDP’s internal crisis. He claimed the party’s current situation suggests it may struggle to remain competitive ahead of the 2027 elections.

Okai further described the PDP’s condition as a “lost cause,” arguing that politicians who remain in the party risk indirectly strengthening the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

He warned that if the Supreme Court eventually nullifies the controversial convention, candidates produced through that structure could be disqualified. As a result, he advised politicians with serious electoral ambitions to reconsider their political alignment.

Okai added that the ADC is inviting like-minded politicians and supporters to join the party ahead of its ward congresses, stressing that building a strong coalition is essential to creating a credible political alternative capable of challenging the ruling party.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.

Meanwhile, comedians Ayobami Ajewole, popularly known as Woli Agba, and Olamide Oladimeji, also known as Dele Omo Woli, have threatened legal action against individuals allegedly linking them to Toluwanisings’ death.

Woli Agba disclosed this in a public notice shared on his Instagram page on Sunday.

In the notice issued by their solicitors, Gemgold, the comedians warned members of the public against publishing or circulating allegations they described as false and defamatory against them.
