NFF Hits Clubs With ₦1M Fine For Skipping Federation Cup Matches, Kwara United Fined.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has issued a stern warning to clubs that fail to honor matches in the state preliminaries of the 2026 President’s Federation Cup, imposing a ₦1 million fine for non-compliance.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The announcement was made on Monday by the federation’s Director of Competitions, Ruth David, who also confirmed the schedule for the state-level rounds. The preliminaries are set to run from 22 March to 26 April, with clubs required to complete registration and attend all fixtures.

“State preliminaries kick off on Sunday, 22 March. Any club that fails to appear for a scheduled match after completing registration will be fined ₦500,000,” the statement read. Final matches at the state level are to be played on Saturday, 25 April, or Sunday, 26 April, with each state association, including the FCT, submitting two representatives for the national stage.

NFF Disciplinary Actions

Gombe United vs Jigawa Golden Stars
Following a protest by Gombe United FC over their 21 December 2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) match against Jigawa Golden Stars FC, the NFF Disciplinary Committee handed down sanctions. Investigations revealed that the centre referee, Terwase Chia, initially awarded a goal kick at 90+4 minutes, which was later changed to a penalty after fans encroached on the pitch. Conflicting match reports were also submitted by the referee.

Senate Confirms Smooth Screening Process, Dismisses Petitions Against Top Nominees.

As a result, Chia has been suspended for the remainder of the season for professional misconduct. Gombe United were fined ₦1 million for crowd encroachment, while Jigawa Golden Stars received a ₦500,000 fine for refusing to continue the match in protest. The match result stands at 0-0.

Wikki Tourist FC
In a separate case, Wikki Tourist FC faced penalties following their 8 February 2026 NPFL fixture against Katsina United FC at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium. The club failed to provide adequate security, allowing unauthorized access to restricted areas, while supporters threw stones onto the pitch.

Sanctions included:

  • ₦2 million for insufficient security

  • ₦1 million for unsporting behavior

  • ₦1 million for throwing dangerous objects
    Additionally, their home stadium sanction was reduced to a five-match ban, effective immediately.

Kwara United FC
Kwara United FC was also sanctioned after their 18 February 2026 NPFL match against Rivers United FC in Ilorin. The club allowed unauthorized persons into restricted areas, and supporters harassed and injured the referee, visiting players, and officials.

Penalties included:

  • ₦2 million for security breaches

  • ₦1 million for failing to control supporters

  • ₦2 million for compensating officials and the away team

  • Deduction of three points and three goals for assault on match officials

  • Reduction of the home stadium relocation to a five-match ban at MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta

The NFF disciplinary committee confirmed that all decisions remain subject to appeal.

The victims, which included candidates of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) heading to Otukpo for their examinations, have all been successfully rescued.

Speaking while briefing Governor Hyacinth Alia in Makurdi during the presentation of the freed victims, the Commissioner of Police, Ifeanyi Emenari, said the rescue operation was achieved through coordinated efforts of multiple security agencies.

He explained that five of the abducted passengers were first released, while the remaining 13 were rescued on Sunday morning without injuries.

According to him, the combined pressure from security forces, supported by the state government and the Inspector-General of Police, led to the successful outcome of the operation.

He also noted that clearance operations have begun across forest areas in the state to flush out criminal groups, in line with directives from security authorities.

Governor Hyacinth Alia, while receiving the rescued passengers, expressed concern over rising cases of kidnapping in the state but welcomed the safe return of all 18 victims.

He confirmed that among those rescued were eight candidates on their way to write examinations, and called on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) to reschedule the affected exams for them.

He further directed the state health authorities to conduct medical evaluations for all rescued persons and promised government support for those affected.
