₦210trn NNPCL Discrepancy: Senate Sends Strong Message On Tinubu Oversight.

The lawmaker representing Nasarawa West Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Aliyu Wadada, has said that President Bola Tinubu may not be aware of the alleged ₦210 trillion discrepancy discovered in the financial records of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Wadada made the remark during an appearance on Channels Television, stating that the Senate Committee on Public Accounts would not hesitate to question any government official if necessary, including the Minister of Petroleum Resources, a position currently held by Tinubu.

He, however, noted that the committee does not believe the president has knowledge of the alleged financial irregularities.

“We are not afraid of talking to the minister. When we get there, if the need arises…to invite the president or question the president, we will do so,” he said.

Addressing suggestions that the probe may be politically motivated, Wadada maintained that the investigation is neither a witch-hunt nor driven by partisan interests.

He stressed that the committee’s focus is on accountability, regardless of political party or affiliation.

While reviewing NNPCL’s accounts from 2017 to 2023, the Senate Committee on Public Accounts said it uncovered two major figures that were not properly backed by documentation.

One of them is ₦103 trillion recorded as accrued expenses and liabilities, which the company said was related to Joint Venture cash calls.

Lawmakers, however, questioned the explanation, noting that the NNPCL generated about ₦24 trillion in revenue within five years, making the ₦103 trillion figure difficult to reconcile.

The committee also flagged another ₦107 trillion listed as sundry receivables—funds reportedly owed to the company by banks and other entities—which lawmakers described as “unverifiable” due to insufficient transparency.

In addition, legislators raised concerns over ₦5.9 billion reportedly spent on the company’s rebranding, as well as alleged subsidy irregularities and disputed production costs.

The current management of the NNPCL has been directed to submit reconciled financial records after previous explanations were rejected by the committee.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
