Kwankwasiyya Defends Aminu Gwarzo Over ₦1.1 Billion Allegation.
The Kwankwasiyya political movement in Kano State has come to the defense of Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, rejecting claims that he misappropriated ₦1.1 billion and insisting that the funds were released with the approval of Governor Abba Yusuf.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The controversy follows an impeachment notice served on Gwarzo by the Kano State House of Assembly on Thursday, citing allegations of gross misconduct, abuse of office, and breach of public trust. The notice, signed by 38 of the 40 lawmakers, accused the deputy governor of financial irregularities during his tenure as Commissioner for Local Government and in his current role.
However, documents released by the Kwankwasiyya movement, dated between April and June 2024, indicate that the ₦1.1 billion was approved by the governor for specific projects across the state. The allocation, according to the papers, was intended for water supply interventions and drug procurement across Kano’s 44 local government areas.
On April 15, 2024, the Kano State chapter of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) requested funds from the Ministry for Local Government to address water shortages and supply drugs for residents. The request, endorsed by Gwarzo, was forwarded to the governor for approval.
One memo to the governor noted, “Your Excellency may wish to note that the sum of ₦25,000,000.00 per LGA was proposed by the 44 Local Government Interim Management Committee Chairmen… Grand Total ₦1,100,000,000.00.”
A follow-up memo dated May 20, 2024, formally sought approval for the release of the funds, stating that the intervention would “resolve problems of acute shortage of portable water across the 44 Local Governments and assist the less privileged in accessing quality drugs.” Approval was conveyed on June 10, 2024, through a letter signed by Abubakar S. Dabo, Director of Local Government Inspection.
Under the approved plan, each local government received ₦10 million for borehole and well maintenance and ₦15 million for drug and medical equipment supply, totaling ₦25 million per council.
Kwankwasiyya leaders insist the documents show Gwarzo acted within official procedures and with the governor’s consent, dismissing the assembly’s allegations as politically motivated.
The impeachment proceedings come amid rising political tension in Kano, following Governor Yusuf’s reported defection from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). Analysts suggest the move may also be linked to Gwarzo’s refusal to defect, remaining aligned with the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement.
Gwarzo has been given two weeks to respond to the allegations. Should his response be deemed unsatisfactory, the assembly may set up an investigative panel under Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
