The Jigawa State Government has dismissed 22 vendors and companies involved in its ongoing Ramadan Iftar feeding programme over allegations of cheating, poor food quality and questionable financial practices.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Authorities said the decision followed complaints from residents and findings from a supervisory and field monitoring exercise that uncovered misconduct among some contractors participating in the humanitarian initiative.

The programme, launched by Governor Umar Namadi, is aimed at providing free meals to vulnerable residents across the state during the 2026 Ramadan fasting period.

However, less than two weeks after its launch, reports from field monitors indicated several irregularities in the management of food supplies and funds by some vendors.

Confirming the development on Friday in Dutse, the state capital, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Special Duties, Auwalu Sankara, said the contractors were removed for serious violations of the programme’s guidelines.

According to him, the affected vendors were dismissed for “gross misconduct, mismanagement of public funds, and poor handling of the programme.”

“These individuals and entities have been dismissed for gross misconduct, mismanagement of public funds, and poor handling of the programme,” Sankara said.

He stressed that the government would not tolerate any actions capable of undermining the humanitarian objective of the feeding scheme, adding that the administration maintains a zero-tolerance stance on corruption and abuse of public trust.

“Our commitment to standards remains unwavering,” he said.

“We will not compromise or allow any deviation from our policies, especially during this sacred month.”

Sankara added that the government has begun replacing the dismissed vendors with more qualified contractors.

“We are already in the process of substituting these individuals with deserving contractors,” he stated.

The affected vendors were operating across several local government areas, including Kafin Hausa, Birnin Kudu, Sule Tankarkar, Jahun, Hadejia, Malam Madori, Guri and Gwaram.

The commissioner explained that the action followed complaints about incomplete food portions, poor meal quality and the failure of some vendors to pay cooks hired for the programme.

He assured that the government would continue close monitoring of the initiative to ensure that the intended beneficiaries receive quality meals.

“The people of Jigawa deserve better. We will ensure accountability and continue to serve the people,” Sankara said.

He maintained that the welfare of residents remains the government’s top priority, noting that the dismissals demonstrate the administration’s commitment to safeguarding public funds and protecting the interests of citizens.

Sankara also commended Governor Namadi for supporting the programme and reaffirmed the state’s commitment to ensuring its success.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
