Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo, has stated that she does not require her father’s backing to pursue her ambition of becoming governor of Ogun State.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

She made the statement during an interview on Channels Television, where she spoke about her decision to join the race for the state’s top political office.

Iyabo explained that her decision to contest the governorship election was entirely personal and not dependent on her father’s approval.

According to her, she has reached a stage in life where she is capable of making choices about her career and political journey independently.

She noted that she is approaching 60 years of age and believes she is mature enough to determine her own path.

Iyabo also spoke about her family, expressing gratitude that both of her parents are still alive.

She said many people in her age group no longer have both parents living, a situation that makes her appreciate her circumstances even more.

The governorship aspirant added that the only thing she expects from her parents is their vote.

She emphasized that her political ambition is her personal decision and that she is ready to pursue it on her own while remaining grateful for the presence and support of her family.

According to her, “I don’t need his support; I’m almost 60. As you’re looking at me now, I’m 59, so I think that at this age, and I tell people at my age, my friends that still have both parents alive are very few. So I consider myself lucky at this age to have both my mother and father alive, and I don’t think at this age, I should be consulting them for everything with my career move. So what I’ve said I know, and my mother will vote for me; that’s all I ask of them.”
