Middle East Fears Iran Could Slide Into Civil War – EU Foreign Policy Chief Warns.
Middle Eastern countries have expressed fears to European officials that Iran could descend into civil war as tensions between Tehran, the United States, and Israel continue to escalate, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said on Thursday.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking ahead of a virtual meeting with EU foreign ministers and representatives of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Kallas said regional leaders are increasingly concerned about internal instability in Iran due to the current leadership situation and ongoing developments.
“When we engage with countries in the region, they voice serious concerns about the possibility of civil conflict within Iran given the state of its leadership and unfolding events,” she said.
Kallas emphasized that the European Union is pushing for a diplomatic resolution to the crisis.
“Wars ultimately conclude through diplomacy. There must be space for dialogue to break this cycle of escalation,” she told reporters.
She added that the EU remains “extremely worried” about maritime security in the region and is working to ensure critical routes such as the Strait of Hormuz remain open. However, she noted that the bloc’s limited dependence on Gulf oil means recent attacks have not significantly affected the EU’s short-term energy security.
US–Spain Tensions Deepen
In a related development, the conflict has intensified tensions between the United States and Spain. Washington has reportedly threatened trade measures against Madrid after Spain declined to permit American aircraft to use jointly operated naval and air bases in southern Spain for operations targeting Tehran.
Spain has criticized US and Israeli strikes on Iran, describing them as reckless and unlawful. While the White House stated that Spain had agreed to cooperate, Madrid has denied the claim.
Asked about the dispute and its possible impact on EU member states, Kallas expressed hope that Washington would honor the trade agreement reached last year with the European Union, which applies to all member nations.
Her remarks underscore growing international anxiety over the wider regional consequences of the conflict, particularly the risk that instability within Iran could further destabilize the Middle East.
Gulf nations, which share maritime borders and strong economic ties with Iran, are especially concerned that any breakdown of order in Tehran could trigger refugee flows, economic disruption, or spillover violence across the region.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.
The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.
Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.
He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.
“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
