FCT Polls: Wike Fires At Ireti Kingibe – ‘She Reads Love Magazines, Not Briefs’.
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has criticized Senator representing the FCT, Ireti Kingibe, over her remarks about the restriction of movement during the recently concluded area council elections in Abuja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking at his first monthly media briefing for 2026, Wike rejected claims that he imposed a curfew, stressing that the directive limiting movement was approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The minister clarified that, contrary to public perception, he did not declare a curfew or a public holiday in the FCT.
“Let me address the claim that I declared a curfew, which I heard the senator mention,” Wike said. “I never declared a curfew or public holiday. I clearly stated that, with the approval of Mr President, movement was restricted from 8 pm.”
He explained that the President had granted a work-free day to allow residents to return to their respective area councils and vote without traveling late at night.
“If she had listened to my speech, I said that by the approval of Mr President, who had declared a work-free day, people could travel to their area councils and return without staying out late,” he added.
Wike also mocked Kingibe, implying she misunderstood his earlier remarks. “I know she doesn’t read; she reads love magazines and such things. If she had heard my speech…” he said, reiterating that the directive had presidential approval.
He further noted that the restriction of movement was informed by security intelligence to prevent potential election-related violence.
“As a minister representing Mr President, I rely on security reports that the public does not have. We acted on intelligence to ensure there was no violence during the elections, and this is not the first time,” he said.
The former Rivers State governor also accused Kingibe and her allies of planning to use the local government elections to “teach him a lesson.”
“Remember, the senator representing the FCT had said they would use the local government elections to show that FCT is not Rivers State. I believe they should have been prepared,” Wike concluded.
