Speaking at a media interaction on Saturday at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, she said the past two and a half years have witnessed notable positive developments.

According to her, the stabilisation of the naira stands out as a major achievement, as it enables businesses and individuals to better predict import costs and revenue. She noted that currency stability reduces pricing uncertainty caused by fluctuations in the dollar, thereby strengthening economic confidence.

She added that improved security and increased international collaboration have also contributed to economic growth, citing the President’s foreign engagements aimed at boosting trade and development.

Obasanjo also defended the proposed Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, describing it as a transformative project capable of driving economic expansion along the coastal corridor and easing traffic congestion on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

She argued that the project would connect ports within the axis, generate revenue, and reduce the heavy traffic burden on Ogun State roads, especially for travellers heading north or east through the existing expressway.

On her political ambitions, the former Ogun Central senator declared her intention to contest and win the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State. She emphasised that her ambition is serious and not symbolic, revealing plans to seek the ticket of the All Progressives Congress and succeed Governor Dapo Abiodun.

She pledged to further expand industrialisation in the state, noting the rising number of factories and the employment and revenue opportunities they create. Obasanjo said Ogun is steadily positioning itself as Nigeria’s industrial hub, drawing comparisons with China’s manufacturing rise and expressing hope that the state could become the “Guangdong of Nigeria.”

Agriculture, she added, would be another priority area, highlighting Ogun’s vast arable land and its strategic proximity to Lagos and seaports. She said boosting food production and agro-processing for both local consumption and export would enhance economic growth.

She also promised to prioritise ICT and technology-driven education to stimulate innovation and job creation.

Explaining her decision to join the APC, Obasanjo said longstanding political relationships influenced her move, noting that many associates who maintained contact with her after she left active politics are now members of the ruling party. She stressed that relationships remain central to political engagement.

Gbenjo’s warning comes amid growing controversy surrounding the late singer’s death and burial arrangements, with reports of disagreements among members of his family.

The gospel singer spoke on Tuesday during a night of tributes held in honour of Toluwanisings in Ibadan, Oyo State. He warned against allowing the situation to degenerate into a controversy similar to the one that followed the death of Nigerian singer Mohbad.

Describing the deceased as a devoted Christian and a genuine servant of God, Gbenjo said Toluwanisings was passionate about his faith and had a good relationship with people.

He urged the public to stop fuelling unnecessary controversy over the late singer’s death, particularly through social media platforms such as TikTok and Instagram.

“You can never see Toluwani in the midst of jobless people. He had a good heart. He was a friend to everybody. He served the Lord with all his heart. Don’t turn Toluwani into Mohbad. That madness on TikTok and Instagram must stop. If you are jobless, go and look for a job,” Gbenjo said.
