Victor Osimhen Surpasses Didier Drogba In Champions League Scoring Chart.
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has surpassed his childhood hero Didier Drogba in the UEFA Champions League scoring charts, marking a significant milestone in his burgeoning European career.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Osimhen netted his 16th goal in the competition during Galatasaray’s dramatic clash with Juventus, moving past Drogba, who scored 15 goals. The achievement holds special meaning for Osimhen, who has often expressed admiration for the former Ivory Coast captain.
His decisive strike at the Juventus Stadium kept Galatasaray in contention. Although the Turkish side lost 3-2 in the second leg, they advanced 7-5 on aggregate to secure a spot in the Round of 16.
With 16 goals, Osimhen now ranks second among Africa’s all-time top scorers in the Champions League, trailing only Guinea international Serhou Guirassy, who has 18 goals.
Despite Osimhen’s rise, Drogba’s legacy in the competition remains iconic, defined by clutch performances and unforgettable moments, including leading Chelsea to the 2012 Champions League title.
Drogba inspired a generation of African forwards to believe they could excel in Europe, and Osimhen is now proving that belief was well founded—even while playing for a club yet to make a major mark in the Champions League.
