Tinubu Reportedly Stops Retirement Of 30 Top Police Officers.

Published

on

President Bola Tinubu has intervened to halt a planned shake-up in the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) that would have forced the retirement of around 30 Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) and Assistant Inspectors General (AIGs) following Kayode Egbetokun’s resignation as Inspector-General of Police.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Egbetokun has since handed over to his successor, Acting IGP Tunji Disu.

Sources told Sahara Reporters that the President stepped in to stop the mass retirement of senior officers. The appointment of Disu has reignited discussions over the longstanding practice of compulsory retirement for top officers whenever a new IGP assumes office—a tradition meant to maintain the command hierarchy.

An internal list circulating within the Force had indicated that at least eight DIGs, including Yahaya Abubakar (Finance), Adebola Hamzat (Logistics), Adebowale Williams (ICT), and Frank Mba (Training), were slated for retirement. However, a Presidency source confirmed that the plan has been suspended.

“The Presidency has halted the retirement of DIGs and AIGs, noting that the new acting IGP Disu requires their experience,” the source said.

Disu’s appointment came less than two months before his mandatory retirement at age 60. Born on April 13, 1966, he was promoted to Assistant Inspector-General on March 6, 2025, and was originally set to retire on April 13, 2026. Under the amended Police Act, which allows an IGP to serve a four-year tenure regardless of age, he could technically remain in office until 2030.

However, sources indicate that recent developments may prevent him from extending beyond his statutory retirement date.

“They’re pushing to ensure acting IGP Disu leaves in April, on the date he is required to retire,” one source said.

Several senior officers previously listed for retirement by the Police Service Commission have reportedly regained hope following the suspension of the plan.

The development has reignited nationwide debate over the legality and practice of compulsory retirements following the appointment of a new Inspector-General of Police.

Food Prices: Tinubu Govt Takes Fresh Action, Approves 90-Day Plan To Reduce Cost Of Living.

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved a 90-day economic action plan aimed at reducing the cost of living, making food more affordable and attracting investments as the Federal Government seeks to improve Nigerians’ living conditions.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The plan also seeks to eliminate barriers to business activities, harmonise taxes, accelerate the completion of major projects and provide regulated support to households.

The approval followed a presentation by the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, during NEC’s 161st meeting held virtually on Thursday.

The meeting was presided over by Vice President Kashim Shettima, according to a statement issued by Stanley Nkwocha, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications in the Office of the Vice President.

The five major areas of the plan include food affordability, tax harmonisation, completion of high-impact projects, removal of investment bottlenecks and regulated household support.

NEC also approved the establishment of a national dashboard to track ongoing projects across the country, with a focus on transparency, accountability and proper reporting on how funds saved from the removal of fuel subsidies are utilised.

Presenting the economic outlook, Oyedele expressed optimism about the progress of President Bola Tinubu’s economic reforms and the prospects for further economic recovery.

He identified reducing headline inflation and interest rates to single-digit levels by 2027 as key policy objectives.

However, the minister noted that the next phase of the reforms would require stronger coordination between the Federal Government, state governments and relevant institutions.

His presentation also emphasised the need to ensure that improvements in economic indicators translate into tangible benefits for households and businesses.

It further highlighted the importance of targeted support, effective public finance management and removing obstacles that discourage investments.

Addressing the council, Shettima said the success of the President’s economic reforms should be assessed by their impact on the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians.

He urged governors and relevant institutions to prioritise affordable transportation, improved healthcare, job creation and greater financial security for citizens.

“The first dividend of prosperity should be the confidence to plan a life. Our task is to make such confidence less dependent on fortune,” he said.

The Vice President also described discussions on transportation, healthcare, police reform and livestock development as crucial to ensuring that Nigerians benefit from economic progress.

He called for stronger collaboration between the Federal Government and state governments, stressing that their separate responsibilities should not prevent them from pursuing the common interest of the public.

“Our separate jurisdictions must serve a common public interest,” Shettima said.

He encouraged governors to apply their understanding of local challenges when shaping national policies, adding that government decisions must deliver practical benefits to citizens.

“Our separate mandates must not become competing excuses. Each Governor carries knowledge that no federal document can supply,” he said.

Shettima added that government policies should ultimately be assessed by their ability to create opportunities, reduce uncertainty and strengthen public confidence.

‘Joshua Should Retire Now’ – Hrgovic Sends Strong Warning To Anthony Joshua Ahead Of Fury Fight.

Published

IBF heavyweight champion Filip Hrgovic has advised Anthony Joshua to retire from professional boxing, citing concerns over the former two-time world champion’s recent performances ahead of his proposed clash with Tyson Fury.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Joshua is scheduled to face fellow British boxer Fury in Cardiff on Friday, December 11. However, Hrgovic believes the British-Nigerian fighter should consider ending his career rather than expose himself to further punishment in the ring.

Speaking on the Ariel Helwani Show, the Croatian boxer suggested that Joshua was approaching the end of his career and might be pursuing the proposed fight largely because of the financial rewards involved.

“He is done; he shouldn’t be fighting anymore, but he wants to do one more fight. I think that he is going to make a huge amount of money and he is doing it because of that, but I think that he shouldn’t be fighting anymore,” Hrgovic said.

Joshua suffered a knockout defeat to Daniel Dubois in 2024 while challenging for the IBF heavyweight title. He returned to action last December and secured a stoppage victory over YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul.

However, questions about his form resurfaced during his subsequent outing in July, when Albanian boxer Kristian Prenga reportedly knocked him down twice before Joshua recovered to secure a second-round knockout victory.

Since then, Joshua has reunited with former trainer Ben Davison, who previously worked with Fury.

Hrgovic said he was shocked by Joshua’s performance against Prenga, particularly because the former champion had reportedly made significant changes to his preparations ahead of the bout.

“When I saw that last fight, I felt sorry for him because before the fight he said that he shut all of his businesses to focus on boxing. He changed his coach for the 20th time. He started to work with team Usyk; he did everything that he could do, and then he comes to the fight with a journeyman, and he goes down in 10 seconds!

“I couldn’t believe it. I felt sorry for him, and I think he shouldn’t be fighting anymore. Based on how he looked in his last fight, it was a disaster. He is just not there, man,” the Croatian said.

Hrgovic also stressed the dangers associated with professional boxing, arguing that fighters must recognise when their careers have reached a point where continuing to compete could put them at greater risk.

“It is not basketball, it is not soccer. In boxing you come to a point where you can’t fight anymore. It is a dangerous sport, it is a war, and I think that when you come to a point where you can’t fight, you can’t mess around with boxing,” he said.

Meanwhile, Hrgovic is expected to make the first defence of his IBF heavyweight title against Frank Sanchez in Croatia in early 2027.

Nigerian singer Tiwa Savage has reacted after popular TikTok stars Peller and Jarvis asked her to become the godmother of their unborn child during a livestream.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

reports that the request was made during a conversation between the singer and the social media couple, who recently announced that they are expecting a child together.

Responding to the request, Tiwa Savage said she would need to pray and seek God’s consent before deciding whether to accept the role.

The singer explained that she believes God should be consulted before making important decisions, stressing that she would want to be certain the request aligns with His will.

She said, “Godmother, let’s think about it. You know what, what I really should do is pray about it because I need to ask God His consent. You know, in everything, we have to go to God in everything we do. So you have to go to God and ask Him first. So, and if God says no, then I don’t know.”

Meanwhile, Peller has advised Yoruba and Igbo people to consider marrying partners from other ethnic groups instead of restricting their choices to people from their respective backgrounds.

According to the TikTok star, Yoruba people who marry fellow Yoruba people and Igbo people who prefer partners from their own ethnic group could be missing out on the benefits of relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds.
