“The Registrar General has on numerous occasions refused to honour invitations and summons by this committee,” Musa said. He noted that the committee had concerns about discrepancies in the reconciliation of the commission’s revenue.

“We have issues with reconciling the CAC’s revenue, but each time we summoned him, he would send a junior officer,” the chairman added.

The matter was first raised by Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who urged the committee to recommend Magaji’s removal to President Bola Tinubu. According to Kalu, the Registrar General’s repeated non-compliance amounted to disrespect for the Senate and undermined the National Assembly’s oversight responsibilities.

Another committee member, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, recommended that the Senate withhold approval of any budget allocation to the CAC in the 2026 Appropriation Act until Magaji personally appears before the committee. Oshiomhole also suggested that the commission be prohibited from spending its Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) without prior approval from the National Assembly.

The committee endorsed these proposals, signalling a potential tightening of legislative scrutiny over the agency’s finances. Lawmakers said their main concern remains unresolved questions about the CAC’s revenue reporting and financial reconciliation.

“Leaders must demonstrate their commitment to delivering good governance. You cannot make promises during elections and vanish afterward without fulfilling them. What more can we say but thank you? You have done your part; we will now do ours. Abaji people have spoken, and they spoke decisively,” he said.
